Get to know selma

Born in Aguaí, she says she never imagined that, coming from a small town in the countryside of São Paulo, she would publish a book, plant a tree, and raise four beautiful children… Daughter of a traditional family from the town, from Vallim Mamede, she spent her childhood enjoying the simplicity of life that a small town provided, where everyone knew and interacted with each other, without worrying about tomorrow. Having built her own family, she went to live in the great city of São Paulo, but ended up returning to her hometown, driven by her heart. It was in this period that her inspiration and taste for writing slowly began to emerge within her. This came from a dream, which made her see herself detached from her body and truly living a fuller reality... When she woke up, she began to sketch stories and publish them in the local newspaper O Imparcial, through the opportunity offered by its editor, Ernani Selber de Freitas. Over the years, the pages of the newspaper, through his encouragement, carried her articles such as “Social Column,” “Stories the People Tell,” “Interviews,” and “Dreams in My Dreams.” It was from this first book, published in 1985, and based on the beautiful dream she had, that Selma Denmark’s first book was born. Thus, the writer began a career as a journalist without ever having attended university, but as she herself says: “What I have written is based on my “Years by the Window” This is also the title of her second book, published during the pandemic in both Portuguese and English, since she has lived for many years in the USA, in the state of New York.
